This Project is scheduled to be the first large utility scale solar PV installation in Kosovo, which has low renewables incidence (10%). It is located in a Favourable area with direct HV connection ensuring superior availability.
Kosovo and the Western Balkans are in the early stages of de-carbonising their coal-based electricity systems, with attractive fundamentals.
The Sponsors are looking for offers to acquire up to 100% of the equity in the Project SPV. Transaction closing is expected upon receipt of relevant permits and prior to the start of construction, with a significant majority of the purchase price due upon transaction completion.
The Kosovar power system was created under the larger integrated Yugoslav power system. It relies predominantly on its two Yugoslav-era lignite power plants, Kosova A (610MW) and Kosova B (678MW), for electricity generation. However, this supply is unreliable; Kosova B had an emergency shut down in December 2021, leading to power cuts in the country. It currently has a low incidence of renewables at 10% of installed capacity, which consists of hydroelectric power plants, as well as recently built wind farms, and small scale PV plants.
The project has been developed by a Sponsor group combining a strong local base with existing solar operations and large-scale development and investment experience in the Western Balkans Offers for EPC and O&M contracts from bankable counterparties.
